Oklahoma House of Representatives

House Terms & Election Cycle

2
Years per term
101
House seats
All 101 House seats are elected at the same time every two years. House members therefore serve concurrent two-year terms, with the entire chamber on the regular election cycle in each even-numbered election year.
Oklahoma State Senate

Senate Terms & Election Cycle

4
Years per term
48
Senate seats
Senators serve four-year terms on a staggered cycle. The 48 districts are divided between two election classes, so approximately half of the Senate is regularly elected every two years rather than all 48 seats being elected at once.
Legislative Service Limit

12-Year Cumulative Limit

12
Cumulative years
House + Senate
Combined service
Oklahoma's constitutional legislative term limit is based on cumulative service in the Legislature, not a separate 12-year allowance for each chamber. House and Senate service count together toward the 12-year lifetime legislative limit, subject to the Constitution's treatment of partial terms used to fill vacancies.
